Proposed New England Merger
December 16, 2025
We are reaching out with exciting news about the future of our profession and strength of our community. After a comprehensive, board-led strategic planning process, the boards and staff of MassCPAs and our fellow CPA societies in Maine, New Hampshire, Rhode Island and Vermont are pleased to announce our intention to merge into one regional organization: the New England Society of CPAs.
This proactive step is made from a position of strength, with a sharp focus on fulfilling our mission and serving our members. As our profession confronts significant pressure that brings both challenges and opportunities, we believe we are better positioned to support our members by coming together. This is about defining our future, not reacting to it.
You will continue to work with the same MassCPAs team, with the same programs, service and support you rely on. That will not change. What will change is the scale of what is possible.
Each of our societies is strong on its own, but by joining forces, we can deliver even greater impact for our members, communities and the profession we all serve. This merger will:
- Amplify our collective voice in advocacy through increased membership;
- Expand your peer network;
- Increase educational options;
- Strengthen our pipeline efforts with the ability to reach more students and future CPAs;
- Enhance support, tools and your community while maintaining local connections you value; and
- Ensure long-term stability, relevance and sustainability.
Nearly two years ago, our board launched a thoughtful and deliberative process to evaluate the Society’s long-term strategy. The goal was to ensure MassCPAs remains strong, relevant and best positioned to meet the needs of current and future members and the profession. To guide this work, the board appointed a committee of members from across the profession, representing the full range of our community so that every perspective could be heard and reflected in the discussions. Their conclusion led us into conversations with the other state societies and ultimately to today’s announcement.
Over the past year, board members, volunteer leaders and staff from all five states worked together to design a model that strengthens what matters most: your state advocacy, local relationships and your connection to the people who know you, while expanding what we can offer together.
We have always believed in the power of collaboration. Over a century ago, local and regional practitioners came together to form the Massachusetts Society of CPAs. That same spirit drives this effort today and positions us to better serve you. With this merger, we continue to build on the collaboration, creating strength in numbers and ensuring a shared commitment to advance the profession that has defined us from the start.

We are committed to full transparency throughout this process, culminating in a live, in-person member vote in May 2026. MassCPAs members will vote in-person at Connect 2026 on May 13. The effective date of the proposed merger is July 1, 2026.
As always, we thank you for your membership and for being part of this special community. Please reach out at any time if you have any questions or concerns.
Sincerely,
